Draperies
Whether your home is on Harbor Island in Memphis or Pickwick Lake in Mississippi, or a cabin in Hardy Arkansas, window fashions can make a huge statement. They also insulate from the cold and shield you from the heat - which will save you some in utility costs.
So, choosing a decorator with experience, references, and fabric knowledge will assure you of quality window treatments.
When creating a window treatment there are five factors you need to consider:
- Lighting
- Function
- Privacy
- View
- Beauty of Your Choice
Lighting
A window that emits a lot of sun can cause a multitude of problems. Excesss sunlight can cause fading, deterioration and rot of your furniture, carpet or artwork. Window treatments lined with either black-out or french blackout will solve this problem.
West and South windows will need thermal lining for sun control in hot months. During winter months, the thermal lining will insulate against the cold.
Function
Stationary drapes, motorized treatments with remote control, or a simple decorative rod. Also the popular traverse rods, operated by a cord.
A motorized drapery added to a theater room creates a realistic mood when entering. Imagine lights out, and at a push of the remote oontrol the drapes open and the show begins! All controlled from your chair!
Privacy
Choosing the correct material and style will ensure your privacy. The interlining and lining added to your material will provide adequate privacy.
Plantation shutters are a good choice and will add value to your home. Plantation shutters can be installed on French doors, arched windows, transoms (rectangular small window above another window or door). These are found in older homes and now in newly designed homes.
Cellular shades, fabrick panel slides, woven woods or bamboo blinds are the newest in window wear.
View
What is beyond your window view? If it is the neighbor's dog run and garage, you will want to frame your window for your enjoyment inside. However, if you have a beautiful garden to look at and enjoy, by all means open up and enjoy the view.
Beauty of Your Choice

Custom draperies are a work of art. I have 25 years experience. I also go to drapery seminars and visit different design showrooms to keep up with current trends. I view educational films, order magazines and talk with others in the business.
Extra time and a personal touch are used to create custom work:
- Fabric squared
- Seams serged
- Interlining cut, serged and hemmed
- Lining cut, serged and hand sewn
- Both sides hand sewn
- Hem face fabric - hand sewn
- Casing at top - or pleats - machine sewn
- Remeasure before professional installation
- For a single window, this is usually a time of 4 weeks
